Andrea and Frank at the Woodlands

It was such a pleasure working with Andrea and her Mother Vicki for Andrea's wedding last summer. They knew the colors they wanted, had an interest in selecting some of the flowers used; but mostly relied on our experience as floral designers.
Andrea selected a lovely yellow rose and white mini calla lillies, from there the choices were ours.

Frank and Andrea had their wedding and reception at the Woodland's in Falmouth. A lovely venue for an outdoor summer wedding. Lauren of LAD Photography took these wonderful shots of the day.

A picture tells a thousand words...

Fall weddings are such a joy here in in Maine. Nature's colors lend a beautiful backdrop that can hardly be improved upon.

Jessica and Damon were married this fall at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception here in Portland, Maine. The reception took place at Outlook Farm in South Berwick.

Photos from Riley Photographic say it better than I ever could. Visit their blog from the link.

Miss Maine - Adrienne Watkinson

A few weeks ago my husband and I were invited to a fundraiser for Miss Maine. Adrienne is the daughter of a childhood friend of mine. Oddly enough, we just reconnected this summer. When Margaret (her Mom), mentioned they were holding a fundraiser and silent auction I immediately thought what can we donate? What else but FLOWERS!! We decided to 'kill two birds with one stone' and offered to make up seasonal pumpkin centerpieces. At the end of the evening 10 arrangements were auctioned off to help Adrienne fund her pursuit for the Miss America pageant in January.

Adrienne is just a bundle of energy! It was so fun to hear about some of the opportunities she's already had as Miss Maine. The girls appeared on the Ellen show this fall and also completed a reality show on the Miss America pageant which will be aired in December. Adrienne's platform for Miss America is 'the healing power of Music.' Her instrument is the violin, which she played for us at the fundraiser.

Though I'd love to be attending the pageant in Las Vegas on January 24th; I'm just happy to say that I know this young lady. Stop by Oak Hill Florist today and we'll make you an arrangement that's just as special as Miss Maine's.

Getting to the Church on time...

One of the many, many joys associated with doing bridal work is the culmination of all your planning and design and the opportunity to see a bride walk down the aisle.

Somehow the moment isn't quite as special when guests are still trickling in as the bride is getting ready to proceed. If you're invited to a wedding, and the invitation states that the service is at 2:00, that means you need to be there by 1:30. 1:45 at the very latest. A wedding is a day for the bride and groom. Guests need to respect that.

When delivering one wedding this summer I noticed that it was well past the processional time. The bride wanted to wait until more people arrived. I took it upon myself to go outside to the parking lot and shuffle people along. I casually mentioned that the Bride was ready to walk down the aisle. No Bride should ever have to wait for her guests.

The adage 'society arrives late' never refers to a wedding ceremony. Arriving late to a wedding is nothing short of rude.

Wedding Etiquette - Where has it gone?

What a wonderful year of weddings we've had! We met some new brides at the Dunegrass Bridal show, had girls find us on the internet; but most of our brides (or their families) have been customers for a long, long time. These are the most fun - simply because you know the family, their floral likes and dislikes, they know our work and let us do our job!

In talking with 3 different MOB's recently, I heard really sad stories about the lack of response from invitees. One Mother told me that she had to get on the phone and call about 30 guests because she had not heard from them and didn't know whether or not to order a meal for them. Another Mother told me after her daughter's wedding, that 8 people who said they were not going to attend the wedding showed up! This is so wrong, and it's very sad.

These poor brides and their families have spent alot of time, effort and money to make the wedding day not only special for themselves, but for the guests as well. All formal wedding invitations indicate to please R.S.V.P. A French term which literally translates 'repondez s'il vous plait', which simply means, 'please respond'.

So next time you are invited to a wedding or another formal event and you see R.S.V.P. - please respond!
